How to become a Provisional Chapter of the NNCNA. PROVISIONAL CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT When you apply for a Provisional Chapter approval in the NNCNA, you will be working with the Network, your peers and other NAs across the country to improve care and also improve the worklife and career advancement of the person who provides 90% of this care - the nursing assistant. Applicants agree to work toward positive change and community understanding of the important role of the NA in the health care system. They also agree to support the mission and principles of the NNCNA. The tasks associated with the Provisional Chapter process are designed to help a group develop stability and self-direction through that critical first year of the Chapter development. The following tasks were created from our many years of experience working with groups; however, each group brings a different set of circumstances and strengths. It is important that Provisional Chapter process be a joint effort of the NN and the member organization. The following is an overview of Phases of Development for a Provisional Chapter of the National Network of Career Nursing Assistants. Each area has additional guidelines which are categorized as "must," "should," and "nice to do" tasks. Your first task will be to begin a plan of action for this next year and forms will be sent to you when we receive your Intent form. Nursing assistants also work on Action Plans in the Leadership Training Program and we urge you to send NAs to a leadership program at your earliest convenience. Phase I - Consensus building Developing the Task Force, Steering Committee or Planning Committee. What to do in the first planning meeting. Identifying and defining the role of the Primary Mentor. Gaining consensus of participation from the NA group. Submission of Intent to Convene a Chapter for nursing assistants. Creating a commitment to the purpose of the group.
Phase II - Developing the direction Creating a direction: focus on growth for individual members and for the group. Developing a Mentor presence with the NA group. How we will decide to decide. Projects of the group. Logistics, funding and reports. Media connections.
Phase III - Co-creating a National Voice Connecting with others. Planning to take an active role in creating a voice for nursing assistants.
How to request approval - To request Provisional Chapter status, please submit an Intent to Convene a Chapter of the NNCNA along with names and addresses of at least three nursing assistants and a mentor who have agreed to work together in a formal way to address issues of nursing assistants.
